What Are Small Steps of Self Help?

by | Jul 29, 2024 | Anxiety

Caring for ourselves is so important for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. If we neglect any part of ourselves, in time, we will experience the consequence. I get it, life gets busy, and things get added to your plate and before you know it, you don’t have a spare minute in the day. But is living that way good for us? Should we fill up our days to the point that we don’t have time to care for ourselves? We are going to talk about that today. Small steps of self-help each day can make a big difference.

Taking Physical Improvement Steps

There are so many ways that we can incorporate physical activity into our days. Not everyone likes to hit the gym every day, but there are so many other ways to increase physical activity. Keeping our bodies able to move and lift is essential to living an active lifestyle. Did you know the more you move throughout your life, the longer you will be able to move?  Have you ever heard the saying “Move it or lose it.”? Well, that is sometimes true for our bodies. If we don’t keep them moving and use our muscles, we become weaker and less able to carry out day to day activities. There are more ways to move more than just gym memberships. Below are some suggestions to help you take small steps of self-help.

  • Take the stairs when available, even to the restroom
  • Park further away from the store entrances
  • Walk your dog further if you have one
  • Suggest walking meetings
  • Play with children instead of watching
  • Pick up or organize an area that is bothering you
  • Do walking lunges around your house as you move
  • Take walks after dinner

There are so many ways to increase the amount of movement we get each day. Which of these are suggestions you will implement?

Mental Health Steps

Our mental health is a vital part of our wellbeing. If helps us make sound decisions. It controls the tone of our thoughts. It forms our outlook in life. Our mental health can greatly affect our relationships. Like our physical health, if we do not take care of our mental health, we will find that we suffer. There are suggestions that we can work into our daily lives that help balance our mental thought life and health. Some of those are listed below. Do you need to make more time for your mental health?

  • Get plenty of sleep & try to keep a schedule
  • Find a relaxation method that works for you like yoga or meditation
  • Spend time in nature, even a quick walk can help
  • Spend less time on your phone and social media
  • Listen to music that calms you
  • Connect with real people
  • Schedule time to do something you enjoy
  • Get creative – paint, draw, or make something

Taking time in your schedule to care for your mental health is imperative. Your mental health is connected to your physical health. When one suffers, the other does. So, what do say? Will you make time for yourself today?

Daily Emotional Support

Do you find yourself overwhelmed at the thought of completing the tasks for the day? Does the thought of completing your day bring dread? Those are good indicators that you could use some more emotional self-care. We simply cannot burn the candle at both ends. We need balance in all areas of our lives to remain healthy and able to succeed in life.  Take a look below and see if any of these suggestions are of interest to you?

  • Take time for yourself each day
  • Keep a gratitude journal of things you are thankful for
  • Try to find one good thing in something hard
  • Maintain physical and mental health
  • Spend time with a friend you enjoy
  • Sing and dance to a song you love

Our wellbeing is made up of all three parts. We need to be aware when we are in need of balance and be willing to take steps toward improvement. Ignoring our bodies signals can lead to more issues. If you find yourself in a place where you just can’t seem to take steps toward improvement for yourself, we are here to help. Reach out today.
