A Deeper Rhythm of Healing: Moving Beyond the 50-Minute Hour

Traditional therapy often stops right as the real work begins. At Upstate Restorative Counseling, we have moved away from the standard weekly “check-in” model to prioritize Deep Work Sessions. By providing more time in each encounter, we ensure your nervous system has the space to process, resolve, and integrate.

  • Extended Deep-Work Sessions (90-120 Minutes): Typically scheduled bi-weekly, these longer sessions allow us to dive deep into somatic reprocessing without the pressure of the clock. Ideal for consistent, high-impact growth.
  • Accelerated EMDR Intensives: Our most concentrated model of care. These multi-day blocks deliver months of therapeutic progress in a single week by eliminating all interruptions to the healing process.

  1. Schedule An Appointment: Book an appointment to discuss your goals and answer any questions.
  2. Choose Your Depth: Together, we’ll decide if bi-weekly 90-minute sessions or a multi-day Intensive is the best fit for your goals.
  3. Begin the Work: We start the process of somatic healing and EMDR to help you move from survival mode into authentic joy.

Frequently Asked Questions About Trauma Recovery

Why do you offer 90-minute sessions instead of the standard 50-minute hour?
Trauma processing and EMDR require time for the nervous system to “warm up” and safely “cool down.” Standard 50-minute sessions often feel rushed, cutting off breakthroughs before they are complete. Our 90-120 minute sessions ensure we have the space to do the deep work effectively and safely.
How often will we meet for sessions?
For most clients in our Deep Work model, we meet bi-weekly for 90 to 120 minutes. This rhythm allows for significant therapeutic movement during the session and provides you with two weeks to integrate the changes into your daily life before we dive back in.
Is online EMDR therapy effective in an extended format?
Absolutely. Virtual EMDR is highly effective when given the proper time. We use secure, HIPAA-compliant technology to provide high-fidelity trauma care to clients throughout South Carolina and Florida, maintaining the same 90-minute depth as our in-person sessions.
What is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach that addresses how trauma is physically stored in the nervous system. By using specialized techniques like Polyvagal Informed Approach during our extended sessions, we help you release physical tension and “reset” your internal safety signals.
Do you take insurance for counseling?
Upstate Restorative Counseling is a private-pay practice. While we do not bill insurance directly, we provide “Superbills” for clients to submit to their insurance providers for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Most clients find that our bi-weekly deep-work model is a more efficient use of their therapeutic investment.
